Life and Margaret Atwood Essay Example for Free
Life and Margaret Atwood Essay This citation was taken from Margaret Atwoods story, Homelanding. This story describes numerous parts of human presence from an outside view, as though it was being advised to an outsider race. This story tells about human appearance, sex (both contrast and the demonstration of), sunbathing, dozing, passing, and numerous other human capacities in a logical manner. This story removes a stage from the ordinary method of depicting these items. For instance, Margaret Atwood discusses eating and depicts it by saying I annihilate and acclimatize certain pieces of my environmental factors and change them into myself. The vast majority who have had human contact as long as they can remember think about eating placing food in their mouths, biting, and gulping. This citation toward the start of the story shows that the writer realizes that she is composing this for a human crowd. She begins this off with the line, Where would it be advisable for me to start? This is even more a conversational style that brings the peruser into this as though she was talking legitimately to the peruser. The human peruser should play the job of the outsider race. The peruser needs to take a duality of being both a human and from an outsider race who has no information on anything human. The following line repeats this with, After all you have never been there; or on the off chance that you have you might not have comprehended the noteworthiness of what you state or thought you saw. An outsider race could never have been to earth, yet the human peruser has gone through his entire time on earth on earth if never halting to think about the centrality of what he is seeing. The following line is: A window is a window, however there is watching out and glancing in. This can be found in all the occasions that somebody sees something in another person that the individual doesn't find in himself. For instance, frequently an educator is answerable for helping an understudy build up an ability that was there however the understudy didn't realize that he had it. This story is endeavoring to do likewise and show the peruser qualities that humankind has however don't have any acquaintance with it has. In the following line, this is emphasized with the announcement, The local you witnessed, vanishing behind the window ornament, or into the brambles, or down the sewer vent in the mainstreetmy individuals are shymay have just been your own appearance in the glass. This shows the peruser is the appearance in the glass and is seeing a representation of himself in the story. Narrating is regularly used to show a thing or two to the peruser or audience. One of the most perused instances of this is the Bible. Jesus frequently talked in stories to help instruct exercises to his audience members. This story endeavors to make us remove a stage fromâ ourselves and see ourselves from an alternate perspective so we might comprehend ourselves better.

Citizen Kane Essay
An amazingly magnificent, yet certainly not a film I could ever observe again in light of the fact that I wouldnââ¬â¢t have the option to deal with it a subsequent time, Citizen Kaneââ¬â¢s very title has become an artful culmination. ââ¬Å"The Citizen Kane of its sort is about as incredible of commendation as any film would want to accomplish. Resident Kaneââ¬â¢s extraordinary status in the realm of American film is held in its place in Hollywood history. At the tallness of the Hollywood studio framework, when studio supervisors controlled each part of filmmaking from creation to show, this film was made by a bunch of splendid craftsmen who were offered opportunity to do anything they desired. The models in the film of why Citizen Kane is ostensibly the best film ever: Introduction to Xanadu.à Kaneââ¬â¢s Death. News on the March. Prologue to Susan Alexander. Visual imagery, Susan leaving his life, and Kaneââ¬â¢s Rampage After Susan Leaves a Symbolic activity, Kane gets the glass ball. Representative discourse, Kane says ââ¬Å"Rosebudâ⬠analogy: Kaneââ¬â¢s appearance in the mirrors Answer to the Riddle of ââ¬Å"Rosebud.â⬠Visual imagery, fence, No Trespassing Sign, K sign in fence in closer view, Xanadu approaching out of sight Outwardly, Welles and incredible cinematographer Gregg Toland manufactured an emotional style consolidating such strategies as extraordinary profound center, fluctuated camera anglesâ including low edges uncovering set roofs, and unusual utilization of lighting and profound shadows foreseeing the film noir style. Separately, the majority of these procedures had been spearheaded in different movies, however Citizen Kane amazingly united them with extraordinary sharpness and development. Narratively, Welles and veteran essayist Herman J. Mankiewicz together made a narrating visit de power joining non-direct account, composite narrating from numerous perspectives (a method that would later be permanently connected with Kurosawaââ¬â¢s Rashomon), differing story structures including the celebrated opening newsreel section just as meetings and flashbacks, and a sensational range of decades with characters maturing from youthful adulthood (or even adolescence) to mature age. Their characters are mind boggling and equivocal, and their discourse pops with mind and knowledge. Specifically, the film handles the secret of man from almost every possible point with the exception of religion â⬠love, satisfaction, cash, power, sex, marriage, separate, legislative issues, the media, big name, despair, passing â⬠in a sweepingly aggressive investigation that asks over again the 2000-year-old inquiry, ââ¬Å"What does it benefit a man to pick up the entire world and lose his soul?â⬠Whatââ¬â¢s more, Kane achieves this not as a thin workmanship film for the driven not many, however as a well known story for the general population, a conundrum picture with the most acclaimed contort finishing off with Hollywood history. This completion, obviously, is the clarification of Charles Foster Kaneââ¬â¢s kicking the bucket word, ââ¬Å"Rosebud.â⬠The curve behind the wind is that while the last shot satisfyingly settle the inquiry with which the image started, the entire thought that that the response to that question would by one way or another give the way to Kaneââ¬â¢s life was just a journalistic arrogance. The film addresses the inquiry, however avoids offering any last clarification or judgment of its mind boggling hero, proposing that a manââ¬â¢s life is in excess of an enigma to be clarified or settled. Thatââ¬â¢s not to state that Rosebud isnââ¬â¢t critical. It is. It means honesty lost, lament, the disappointment of the American long for clothes to-richesâ success. It likewise speaks to what Kane lost at an early age when he was taken from his mom and father and raised by a cold watchman. Denied of adoration, troubled by a lot of cash and force, Kane grows up with a voracious want to be cherished regardless of being unequipped for affection himself, just as an egotism and feeling of qualification to getting his direction. An amazing deplorability embodies the clouded side of the quest for satisfaction, with bombed relationships, broken kinships, ran political yearnings, ravenous avarice, disengagement, and depression. Debate encompassing the arrival of the film has become a suffering piece of its legend. The character of Charles Foster Kane was broadly perceived in any event to a limited extent as a fictionalized variant of paper tycoon William Randolph Hearst, and Hearst angrily gave a valiant effort to stifle the image and have it pulverized. While dealing with Citizen Kane, Welles kidded that ââ¬Å"If they at any point let me do a subsequent picture, Iââ¬â¢m lucky.â⬠He was just half right. He was fortunate enough to make numerous extra pictures, some of them perfect works of art in their own right. That excessively great degree of control and enchantment was a once in a blue moon opportunity and Welles benefited as much as possible from it. This is Citizen Kane.

Drama Of The Loman Family - Free Essay Example
Imagine dying for the sake of a dream. In the drama Death of a Salesman, the author, Arthur Miller, tells of the tragic life of a salesman named Willy and his family. The family feels trapped in their misfortune, and in turn act in immature ways in order to prove to themselves that life is not as bad as it seems. The Loman family is constantly being tested by various events, therefore when something good happens they are quick to react, not thinking about how it will impact them in the future. Miller uses the actions of the characters to show that, much like today, the Lomans wanted to be successful in life: the characters lack of honesty, lack of communication and being in a state of denial, which led to the selfless decision that would change the Loman family forever. In the drama, Miller uses the conflict between the two main characters, Willy and his son, Biff, to bring to light one of the biggest problems seen throughout the story, honesty. The Loman family is built on lies and secrets. In the attempt to bring light to both situations, Willy and Biff lie their way through each obstacle. Linda, Willyrs wife, is so blindsided by the hard work of her husband, that she can not see what is going on behind the scenes and while he is at work. Willy is having an affair with a woman, but knows how to manipulate his family into believing he is your ordinary hard working father whose main priority is to provide for his family. While a lot of the blame for the family misfortune is thrown on Willy, Biff is no angel either. He hides from his family the reasoning for having no address for three months (104) until he later confesses he was in jail for stealing. (104) The Loman family is constantly in a battle against each other because there is not a strong fo undation or the honesty needed for the family to thrive. With the constant struggle between both men who only see the failures in each other, conflict is set early on in the drama. Considering what the reader already knows, it is evident that without honesty and trust the Loman family is not going to last. Two very important components of a successful family would be trust and communication. For the Loman family communication is not a strong suit. A vast majority of the problems developed in the story stem from Willy and Biff who do not agree on anything. They lack communication skills which has not helped with Willyrs hope of one day living the American dream. Willy has big plans for Biff, but Biff refuses to settle for anything less than perfect. Biff, being 34 years old, has not had a set job and has explored multiple career choices, such as shipping clerk, salesman, business of one kind or another (10) , and he has never been satisfied. Biff and Willy do not have a healthy relationship. Once a statements is made they are ready to fire back. Willy does not agree with Biffrs inability to compromise with a job and makes the remark that not finding yourself at the age of thirty-four is a disgrace, (5) creating conflict once again with his son. A lot of Willyrs problems start when he do es not get what he wants and then starts to react based on his immediate feelings. Not only does he disagree with his son but he finds himself getting jealous of the fame and fortune of the people around him. He lets his immediate senses cloud his judgement which in the long run is detrimental to his family. Miller uses Willy and Biffrs poor communication skills to prove that sometimes it is better to say nothing at all, then to open your mouth and regret it later. In addition to lacking honesty and having poor communication skills, the Loman family, Willy in particular, is in denial, which leads to the event that will change the Loman family. This creates the greatest amount of tension between Biff and Willy. Willy is constantly nagging at Biff and his inability to find a job which only makes matters worse. Likewise, he calls Biff a lazy bum (5), but then contradicts himself by making the comment just moments later, there is one thing about Biff- he is not lazy. (6) Miller uses Willyrs inability to detain his emotions to show that Willy is very indecisive about many things in life. Instead of letting his sons live their own dream, Willy lets his own personal goals, get in the way of Biffrs wishes. Willy also brings the problems he faces in his home life, into the workforce. Willy is very confident in himself as a salesman, but his boss sees it differently. Willy says he averaged a hundred and seventy dollars a week in commissions (62), by is t hen degraded by his boss, Howard when he says, now Willy, you never averaged (62) that much money, which is obvious considering how much the Loman family is struggling. Miller uses the conversation of the two characters to prove Willy is in denial. Furthermore, Willy makes the statement, you end up worth more dead than alive, leading him to make the decision to kill himself, in hopes of giving his boys the future they want and deserve. Miller uses the actions of the Loman family, to reiterate what denial can do to a family. In Arthur Millerrs Death of a Salesman, the reader is almost immediately thrown into the drama of the Loman family. Miller writes in a way that will keep the reader on his toes about what will happen next in the Loman household. Overall he uses Willy and Biff as a platform for the drama, to show what the lack of honesty, communication, and even denial can do to a family. In the drama, the character gets to see how the Loman family is affected due to the unwillingness to agree. Miller reiterates that the things you do in life have consequences, some are good, and some are bad. For the Loman family the actions of the characters will change their life forever, they had to lose something to gain something, and for what. The things you do in this life will be what people remember you by, make sure to leave a legacy.

The instrumental goes for 16 beats, and the chords from the second stanza of the bridge are used again but the volume has been slightly turned up and is used to keep the eat in the instrumental and this time is played on guitar and strummed on every beat. .u9196ba253bda789a7f13769bc3745c1b , .u9196ba253bda789a7f13769bc3745c1b .postImageUrl , .u9196ba253bda789a7f13769bc3745c1b .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u9196ba253bda789a7f13769bc3745c1b , .u9196ba253bda789a7f13769bc3745c1b:hover , .u9196ba253bda789a7f13769bc3745c1b:visited , .u9196ba253bda789a7f13769bc3745c1b:active { border:0!important; } .u9196ba253bda789a7f13769bc3745c1b .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u9196ba253bda789a7f13769bc3745c1b { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u9196ba253bda789a7f13769bc3745c1b:active , .u9196ba253bda789a7f13769bc3745c1b:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u9196ba253bda789a7f13769bc3745c1b .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u9196ba253bda789a7f13769bc3745c1b .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u9196ba253bda789a7f13769bc3745c1b .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u9196ba253bda789a7f13769bc3745c1b .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u9196ba253bda789a7f13769bc3745c1b:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u9196ba253bda789a7f13769bc3745c1b .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u9196ba253bda789a7f13769bc3745c1b .u9196ba253bda789a7f13769bc3745c1b-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u9196ba253bda789a7f13769bc3745c1b:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Classification of Math, Logic, and Music as Language EssayA banjo is introduced and is being strummed really fast and strummed four times every beat and quickly fades out in time for verse two. The banjo has a very tinny sound and is higher in pitch than the guitar. The two instruments contrast each other and this technique is used to show diversity in the piece. In verse two, there are two stanzas both with 16 beats with the last four beats of each being only instrumental, the same as verse one. In stanza one the bass line is light strumming twice on every beat. The vocals are still low male vocals with not much variation in pitch with a husky tone that are played for 12 beats with the other four being instrumental. These vocals add to the texture by leading the melody. Soft piano is played one note every two beats, alternating from low too high for two bars and on the third bar from low to high still on every second beat and then down the scale for two more beats which and the piano copies some of the melody and the tune from the vocals but only plays on every couple of beats which adds to the layers of sound. In stanza two, the same bass line from the guitar and the same riff from the banjo re played from the instrumental for the 16 beats and are accompanied by another layer which is the tambourine which is played on every beat which helps to reinforce the beat and rhythm of the piece. Also the same male vocals are added with the deep and low range but sound more forceful and the vocals are played for 12 beats with the remaining four being only the guitar, banjo and tambourine. The use of these instruments gives a strong tone color of folk music and that style. For the Chorus, The same amount of two stanzas at 12 beats each is in place and the use of wintertime lyrics as in all the verses/ choruses and the same guitar riff, banjo melody and tambourine beat is continued (station) with no pauses and a very faint use of synch or even trumpet is also used on every note and is played on every beat. The male vocals are again prominent singing the main role and are mainly low in pitch but this time with a stronger tone and and going slightly higher in certain parts with little harmonize from higher male vocals. The variety of different instruments and their different pitches create a layered harmony that has a bright tone color cause of its upbeat rhythm. Leading up to the third verse, there is 1 bar where for 3 beats the instruments quickly fade out and there is a one beat rest which represents how the piece has slowed down and has broken away from the chorus and is starting a new part in the song. This verse is only 1 stanza for 16 beats with the last four being only instrumental. The main rhythmic electric guitar is played and is strummed twice a beat and is played to keep the beat going which is very strong and steady and is continued for the last four second instrumental for the third verse tit a slight variation of a strum of a different higher chord. The vocals are still of a low register and are the main male vocals all throughout the song and are very strong with a slight quality of speaking. The technique of making it quieter and simpler is used so that there may be another build up later in the piece. This verse stanza as well. In the Chorus there are 3 stanzas at 12 beats each and for the first stanza the quiet strumming of the main guitar beat is carried on. A quiet piano riff is added in the high register to add another texture to the piece which alternates between three totes played for every beat. The trumpet/synthesizer is also played on every second note very faintly which adds a different texture to the piece. .u56fafa7638a145a0c90fc3a40bdaf939 , .u56fafa7638a145a0c90fc3a40bdaf939 .postImageUrl , .u56fafa7638a145a0c90fc3a40bdaf939 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u56fafa7638a145a0c90fc3a40bdaf939 , .u56fafa7638a145a0c90fc3a40bdaf939:hover , .u56fafa7638a145a0c90fc3a40bdaf939:visited , .u56fafa7638a145a0c90fc3a40bdaf939:active { border:0!important; } .u56fafa7638a145a0c90fc3a40bdaf939 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u56fafa7638a145a0c90fc3a40bdaf939 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u56fafa7638a145a0c90fc3a40bdaf939:active , .u56fafa7638a145a0c90fc3a40bdaf939:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u56fafa7638a145a0c90fc3a40bdaf939 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u56fafa7638a145a0c90fc3a40bdaf939 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u56fafa7638a145a0c90fc3a40bdaf939 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u56fafa7638a145a0c90fc3a40bdaf939 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u56fafa7638a145a0c90fc3a40bdaf939:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u56fafa7638a145a0c90fc3a40bdaf939 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u56fafa7638a145a0c90fc3a40bdaf939 .u56fafa7638a145a0c90fc3a40bdaf939-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u56fafa7638a145a0c90fc3a40bdaf939:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Music as Revolt - The Basque Experience EssayThese three instruments are all played very softly and the vocals are the same lead male vocals that in certain parts of the chorus lyrics take it to a higher register for a short time which shows a change in pitch for the piece and this part is accompanied by harmonize of another higher male vocal that is very faint but effective. In the second stanza the instruments become louder and the vocals become more forceful which are leading p to the next instrumental. The instrumental starts with four beats of the main guitar continuing the strumming pattern, building up and then going into the 24 beat instrumental. The main guitar strumming is played which is the guitar being strummed twice a beat very faintly and the banjo being strummed four times a beat which is very fast. The tambourine is hit on every beat which is a percussion instrument that helps keep the rhythm. The vocals hum to the tune of the lyrics that are sung previously and hum the melody to the song. The trumpet plays in intervals on every second beat very faintly. It plays a riff that harmonies with the other instruments and ads to the layers of the song. The beat in this instrumental is very steady and the roles of the instrument are evenly given to create a symmetrical layering which creates the texture of the song. The final chorus goes for 14 beats and is a continuation from the instrumental with all the instruments staying to their roles from the previous section. The male vocals are the only instrument added and they sing in a higher register than the other choruses and are sung with a lot more passion and desperation in the voice and it has nicer tonal quality. The vocals in the last two beats are taken to a high range and are sung with a strong quality. As the last chorus starts the trumpet starts to get louder and louder and it harmonize with voice that is singing the melody. The trumpet is a high pitch instrument so it complements the low vocals. The trumpet plays a riff that compliments the melody and is used to give more depth to the piece. The dynamics in the end of the piece are achieved well by complementing each instrument with each other and with the different pitches and ranges and the same ideas are used all throughout the piece.

Wedding venues Essay Example
Wedding venues Essay Example Wedding venues Essay Wedding venues Essay Name: Instructor: Course: Date: Wedding venues The three appropriate venues for wedding are Belhurst, Queensbury and Manhattan bureau all in New York. Since the wedding will have a Hindu theme, the best venue is Queensbury hotel. The hotel has a spacious hall for hosting weddings. The hall is also well garnished with bright colors and architectural designs. It is well lit with colored lights that create an exciting celebratory mood. The hall has adequate space for holding guests and adding decor. This venue is suitable for the vow ceremony as well as the reception. The hotel management provides the seats for all the necessary guests. Where seats are not necessary, they provide the necessary materials. Queensbury Hotel Manhattan Marriage Bureau The venue is available for weddings but couples need to book in advance. This hotel is quite popular and is usually overbooked since it is a favorite for most couples wishing to get married. Therefore, confirmation is required for use of the hall. Booking helps the hotel management to prepare in advance and they brief the couple on any requirements. For example, the couple needs to give an estimation of the number of guests expected. This will allow the catering department to prepare food and drinks adequately. The cost of hiring this hall is relatively affordable. The actual amount of money differs from one wedding to another. This is due to the different arrangements and requirements. This venue gives liberty of using outside decor for weddings. Couples are allowed to bring in any kind of decoration they see applicable in the hall. The management offers decoration services should the couple need them. Hindu weddings are characterized with many flowers and artwork. The artwork may include drawings and paintings. The women can also choose beautiful valances to put on walls and windows. The flowers and valances should be concentrated at the altar where exchanging vows will take place. The hotel has ample parking for wedding guests. The security of the hotel ensures all the vehicles are safe. The hotelââ¬â¢s staff is enough to offer services for a wedding ceremony. The catering department will prepare meals and drinks in accordance to the couplesââ¬â¢ instructions. At the time of the wedding, the waiters and waitresses serve the guests. Many types of food are available and if not, the catering department can prepare them on request. Hindus have diverse culinary arts therefore, the couple is required to confirm whether the caterers will provide the food required. The theme colors are chosen by the bride and groom and they should be incorporated in the hall decor. The sitting arrangement is part of decorating the hall. It has to be well organized in a unique design. The design should have a clear view to the front for the guests to follow the wedding program. There should be no congestion and it can be avoided by choosing a design, which will leave ample spaces for people to pass. The altar should be higher than the ground for people to have a better view. It helps to catch the attention of all the guests. A blessing is part of a Hindu wedding and it might last for several hours depending on the beliefs of the couple. It involves a Hindu priest who incorporates other rituals as well. The blessing should be done together with other activities of the ceremony. For example, some of the activities are calling upon Agni to attend the wedding. The couple makes seven steps where each step has a blessing. After the priest has made it official the couple is married, the blessing can be recited. It wishes the couple a good life together and their offsprings. The blessing includes wishes like the couple to remain strong and assist each other in areas of weakness. People wish for the couple to have wealth and prosper through their lifetime. The couple is wished happiness, harmony, friendship forever, and a lovely family. An interesting thing about Hindu wedding is the aspect of divinity. When the couple is at the altar, they are considered as god and goddess. The bride is goddess of fortune and groom is god of preservation. It is an admirable observation where the bride and groom come together as they have a feeling of divinity. A Hindu wedding has long proceedings and more requirements than a modern typical wedding. This is why it is essential for preparations to begin early. The venue should suitable for all the rituals and activities, which take place. Hindu weddings are done indoors therefore; the venue should not be in the open air. Further preparation involves dressing the bride and groom. The bride is the center of attention so she needs to be attractive. Hindu brides are dressed in beautiful dresses and veil. They wear many ornaments and use cosmetics for beauty enhancements. The groom dresses in fine clothes and some like holding flowers. Transportation to the venue and inviting guests should be pre-determined.

Cloning Entire Organisms Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Cloning Entire Organisms - Research Paper Example Now the entire organisms are cloned. Cloning of entire organisms can be dated back to 1997 when the first mammal was cloned; a sheep named Dolly. After this the research work in the field saw a rapid progress, and soon clones of rabbits, cows, mice, goat etc. were made (Cloning Fact Sheet, 2009). Cloning which has now long been a buzz word among not only the science, biology, medicine or genetics learned people but has also been arousing strong interest and attention among the so called ââ¬Å"laymenâ⬠or non-science background group of the society. To start with, when cloning, its potential application and benefits for the human race were elaborated, the technique earned many accolades and the scientists responsible for this great research gained loads of appreciation. This all started years back in 1952, when the first clone of a tadpole was created.à Further studies about the genes, genetic make-up, gene cloning and molecular biology have won many awards for the responsibl e scientists and associated companies and universities. Considering the prospective gains cloning might have for the human race, many governments have also been encouraging research work in related fields by providing grants for many biotech companies, institutes and universities. ... any problems including organ transplanting, low yielding crops, need of highly productive animals, huge requirement of lab animals, infertility among couples, disease like cancer, Alzheimerââ¬â¢s etc. On the other hand, the same cloning technique is being considered unethical and unsafe for the progress of human race. Both these aspects are discussed with relevant instances below. The Pros Cloning is a broad term extending from single gene cloning to cell culture, recombinant DNA technology and organism cloning. As far as cloning is considered, the method presents itself as a boon or a gift for the human population. The technology has been and can be used in various ways to help people find possible solutions for their problems, some of which will be elaborated in the following paragraphs. Cloning of entire organisms includes making genetic replicas or identical twins of another organism of the same class/race, like bacteria, some fungi, plants, mammals, lab animals or even humans . A donor or a giver is selected whose replica or twin is to be made. All the techniques which have been defined and developed in this field till date somehow focus on provision of some or the other benefit for the human kind. If one form of cloning can be used to create extra stock of proteins useful for diabetic patients, the other has been used to create high yielding varieties of rice. The entire genome replication/cloning is another advanced form of gene cloning. Here, not a single part or segment of the genome but the entire genome of an organism, be it goat, sheep, some kind of bacteria or a human, is used to make clones. As a result, we get identical twins of the donor. By identical we mean that the clone will have exactly the same genetic make-up as the donor. At first the technique was

Intermediate Accounting Research paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words
Intermediate Accounting - Research Paper Example The following illustration provides a simplified view of the business model followed by Groupon: Comparison of this business model of Groupon with Wal-Mart reveals some fundamental differences in the approach followed by the two businesses. First of all, as mentioned earlier, the virtual operating style of Groupon through internet is a primary factor which distinguishes the extent to which both companies can target their respective customers. Based on the differences identified in the business model for Groupon in comparison with the approach followed by Wal-Mart, it is possible to determine how these differences influence the risks identified by Groupon in its financial statements under management discussion and analysis and also the translation of these risks into financial reporting of the company. Before initiating a discussion as to how risks faced by Groupon would influence its business model, it is pertinent to understand that the success of the business model of the company l argely rests on the revenue generating ability of the company through acquiring new subscribers to purchase coupons offered by the company. Since the company has only one product to offer, i.e. coupons, therefore any unfavourable changes in the circumstances may eventually lead to the disruption of whole business model. First of all, the company has expressly stated in its Form S - 1 that, ââ¬Å"We may not maintain the revenue growth that we have experienced since inception.â⬠(Groupon Incorporation 11). Although, the company would take measures to ensure that such a risk may not materialize in future; however, if such a situation is faced by the company where revenue growth becomes difficult, the business model may be affected severely, as there is no contingency plan for the company due to lack of its diversity in operations. Realizing the significance of influence this risk may have on the business model of the company, it has been mentioned that, ââ¬Å"If we fail to retai n our existing subscribers or acquire new subscribers, our revenue and business will be harmed.â⬠(Groupon Incorporation 12). In addition to this, it is also important to note that apart from growth in subscribers to the business, the retention and growth of merchants for the business is also a risk factor. The company has expressly stated that if it fails to retain or grow the number of merchant it deals with, the revenues may shrink considerably in the future and therefore place impact on the whole business (Groupon Incorporation 13). Apart from this, it is also pertinent to understand that Groupon is not alone in its market; in fact there are other competitors who are improving their customer base and market standing. The company, in this regard, states that it operates in a highly competitive environment where competitors may pose a significant threat to the operations and growth opportunities for Groupon in the future (Groupon Incorporation 13). Issues regarding Revenue Re cognition for Groupon The table presented as follows include information pertaining to revenues, cost of sales, other operating expenses and net profit / loss of the company for the financial years 2009 and 2010. Under each year, both gross and net based revenue recognition by the company has been presented so as to make the comparison possible between

Buster Keatons The Cameraman :: essays research papers
The Cameraman (Rough Draft) The Cameraman (1928), an MGM Buster Keaton feature, is one of the last truly great feature films of the silent era. From the artistic balance it finds between the simplicity of an all-too-familiar storyline and the complexity of technique and cinematography, to the very-entertaining and captivating performances of its actors, the film that was nearly lost to the annals of motion-picture history is a multi-faceted gem that is joyous to watch. Simplicity is one of the big keys to the success of The Cameraman. The simple plot is of the age-old yet noble type (ââ¬Å"hero-sees-girl, is-knocked-off-feet, goes-to-great-lengths-to-be-noticed, getting-in-much-trouble-en-routeâ⬠). It has Buster trying to get a break as a cameraman into the newsreel department of a famous studio (MGM, and win the affections of the office receptionist, Sally, played by a beautiful Marceline Day. His endeavors land him in all sorts of uproarious situations, including several hilarious altercations with the romantic rival, a snooty ââ¬Å"madeâ⬠newsman played by Harry Goodwin. The thematic elements stay simple as well. Pungent with cynicism, irony rears its humorous head on more than one occasion. These bits of the film are delivered with perfect timing, laced with a little seriousness. One such instance is near the latter end of movie when Buster, in a daring stunt, saves Sally from drowning. He leaves her unconscious on the shore momenta rily while he rushes into a pharmacy mere yards away to get something to help her. During those few moments, she awakens, and Busterââ¬â¢s rival, who had abandoned her to drown in order to save his own skin, happens upon her just as she opens her eyes. She thinks he has saved her from certain peril and Buster emerges from the drug store with bandages and the like just in time to see them stroll off into the sunset, arm in arm. Another such moment comes when Buster has gone through hell and high water to obtain footage of a gang war going on in the city streets, only to find that he had never loaded film into his camera. Uncomplicated twists such as these lend to the easy, fun watching that The Cameraman is. There is no profoundly deep symbolism to be found, and the lack of any attempt at thought-provoking societal depictions really lend to a successful package. This is supposed to be comedy, and a marvelous one it is. Though simple, the plot of The Cameraman is perfectly construc ted.

Coursework on sociology Essay
To be a non-traditional student is not at all an easy decision I made. Having my own family who needs my full time and attention is the biggest consideration I had when I decided to take on-line course. However, my family is also the best encouragement and inspiration I had. The world is taking its fast pace towards globalization and everyone must be able to cope up. The computerization of almost everything requires that everyone must conform to the speed of economic changes. In this world where education is a key to success and progress, everyone must avail of education by any means available. I believe that the best thing I can do is to avail of education while still having time with my family is to take online courses. The decision will affect my social life and the financial status of my family since I will have to allocate time and finances with my studies. The hours I am spending before in personally doing the household chores will now be partly consumed by my studies. The few I hours I am spending before in visiting my friends next door will now be lessened in have time for my studies. (Kindly use the remaining required words in answering the question whether you are studying a technical field) In the absence of on line courses, I may consider having evening or weekend classes. However, evenings are my only time to help my kids in their home works. I do not want to sacrifice weekends either because I strictly set these days as family and church days. So the best thing for me is to choose timeslots that will best fit school hours when my children are in school which online courses offered. Question 2 English is undoubtedly the worldââ¬â¢s widely accepted language as it is the required language for everyone to communicate globally. It is therefore important that everyone be able to have the opportunity to learn Standard English in order to cope up with the fast changing world especially that the world is pushing through globalization. I believe that even the students in the rural areas can compete globally. However, it is impossible for them to do it if they cannot meet the standards of the global arena expressed in Standard English. I believe that with this need, a child needs to learn English even before he go to a formal school. This does not however mean that local dialects are to be set aside and be forgotten. While English has been set as the official language of Kentucky in 1984, I believe that their local dialects as well as that of African-American who speak Ebonics must still be practiced. ââ¬Å"Teachers should be given every possible tool to reach our childrenâ⬠(L. L. Rush). Even in school premises, it is important that students be able to freely express themselves which can only be possible when they speak in their dialects. But in order for them to cope up with the global standard, they are to strive hard in learning Standard English. Even the government of Kentucky is doing steps in order to assure that the students get the minimum skills required in English and Mathematics (V. Honawar). China, being the host in the 2008 Olympics is requiring its people to learn English in preparation of the event. The best way to learn is to practice and that is what every child in Kentucky and the rest of the world must do. This way, their confidence in facing the world will be better build up which will be their instrument in achieving success whether educational or economic success. Question 3 Robert Williamââ¬â¢s list of values have been created in 1970, that was more than three decades ago. The world has changed a lot, and so are the Americanââ¬â¢s perspectives, priorities and moral standards. As a contemporary American, morality and family are the values that are of the highest importance to me. With the fast changing world, I value education in order for me to cope up with the success and progress of the world. In order for me to do this, I need to avail of the freedom and equality that the American government offers. All of my current efforts are for my family and I owe all of what I have now from God. With reference to Williamââ¬â¢s list, I think that the importance of protecting the family is the value that he had missed. As I browsed on the websites providing lists and information on the American values, I was impressed with the survey results made by the Roper Poll Corporation revealing that protecting the family is the first in the list of values that Americans consider as important. The other values in Williamââ¬â¢s list still appear to be the same important values for Americans although there is a noticeable change in their sequence. I believe that because America has already been progressive, the value of success, achievement and progress are no longer on top of the list. Most of the websites I browsed agreed on the order of the values but are contrary to Williamââ¬â¢s list in the sense that family is not included in the latterââ¬â¢s list. Also, achievement and success are no longer on top of the values prioritized by modern Americans. I believe that my list of values will differ with that of the other students in a way that family and morality, including faith are on top of my list. I am assuming that majority of the students will conform with the latest survey of which family is on top but religiosity and morality at the 8th and 9th spots out of ten values.
